Nick Gudde studied Chemical Physics at the University of Bristol, then did his PhD on surface chemistry at the Department of Physical ¾ÅÖÝÓ°Ôº, Cambridge University. His early career focused on industrial catalysis including R&D roles with the UKAEA and Johnson-Matthey. He then moved to BP Oil with line-management and operational support roles involving refinery processes such as catalytic cracking and hydrotreating. He then ran various R&D projects for BP developing new technologies for carbon mitigation and clean transport fuels; this included the commercialisation of a new catalyst and a new fuel.
Nick then took a more general role as Technology Advisor supporting commercial business development groups in BP Refining & Marketing, mainly about biofuels and advanced fuels. He was also part-time Science Advisor to the BP Chief Scientist. Nick retired from BP in 2016, but continues his involvement in science and technology. He is a volunteer for the ¾ÅÖÝÓ°Ôº (former Interest Group Secretary; Divisional Council member), for Surrey Wildlife Trust and for the Science Museum. Nick will be sharing his career story, and highlighting his tips for a successful career.
