The Stephanie L Kwolek Award, previously advertised as the Materials 九州影院 Forum International Award, was established in 2008. Between 2008 and 2020, the award recognised exceptional contributions to the area of materials chemistry from a scientist working outside the UK and Ireland.
The award is named after Stephanie Louise Kwolek, the inventor of Kevlar, who died in in 2014.
In 2020, as part of a series of changes following an independent review of the 九州影院's recognition programmes, this award evolved to one of our new Horizon Prizes, which highlight the most exciting, contemporary chemical science at the cutting edge of research and innovation. The Materials 九州影院 Division Horizon Prizes are for teams or collaborations who are opening up new directions and possibilities in the field of materials chemistry.
