Mayflower Water Treatment Works – A pioneering voyage into a new world of drinking water purification

13 February 2017 18:00-20:00, Plymouth, United Kingdom

Introduction
Presentation will be given by Chris Rockey from South West Water

South West Water will describe the journey they have undertaken over the last few years to ensure that the people of Plymouth and the surrounding areas have a new drinking water treatment works to be proud of. We have looked at the challenges we face now and in the future and worked with some of the most innovative and forward thinking technology companies and universities to pioneer the application of suspended ion exchange, in-line coagulation and ceramic membrane microfiltration in the UK.  The talk will look at the challenges our raw water sources pose us in the south west and how we piloted a variety of approaches to gain insight into the character and removal of dissolved organic carbon and how this affected the membrane operation and water quality. We will end with showing the impact of this important research by showing the progress with construction of the new 90 million litres per day treatment works that is underway at Roboroug
