In silico and in vitro methods in modern drug discovery

24 April 2017 09:00 - 25 April 2017 17:00, Nottingham , United Kingdom

Introduction
The rate of entry of new drugs into the clinic has slowed alarmingly and new, more efficient discovery strategies are needed. Exciting opportunities can be realised by improving the use of in silico and in vitro techniques. This focused meeting has been organised by the British Pharmacological Society to bring together academic and industrial scientists and students aspiring to work in drug discovery to discuss novel approaches to developing new medicines

Aims and objectives:

  • How can in silico modelling be used to enhance medicinal chemistry?
  • Discuss novel in silico/in vitro techniques that are being developed and how these can help to accurately predict human toxicology as well as human dosage prior to clinical trials
  • Can these new methods help to reduce drug attrition during clinical trials, and speed up the route to registration?
  • How do we do good academic drug discovery?
  • How do we minimise animal usage, will this help with more accurate predictions of human efficacy?
