Finding the perfect partner: Molecular matchmaking in the kinase world

8 November 2017 18:00-20:30, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
Lecture synopsis
The Kinase family of enzymes catalyse the phosphorylation of proteins within cells allowing signal transduction from cell-surface receptors to the transcriptional apparatus in the nucleus. Their involvement in a cell’s survival and its responses to environmental challenges provides many opportunities for disease intervention. The challenge has been to obtain selective inhibitors of each kinase in order to tease out their role in signalling and disease pathogenesis or propagation. This lecture will provide an overview and illustrations of strategies that have been adopted to obtain such selective inhibitors.
