This short presentation will focus on the following points. The talk itself will last under 30 minutes, leaving time afterwards for questions and discussion.
1 How to bring chemistry, microscopy and art together using a polarising microscope;
2 Various drugs are illustrated after recrystallisation from alcohol solution;
3 Thin sections of various minerals are illustrated;
4 Finally it is shown how a simple microscope may be adapted to give these spectacular kaleidoscope pictures.
The session will be delivered by Roger Kevern from the Mid-Southern Counties Local Section committee. Roger is a retired scientist whose main career was in health and safety management but his original degrees were in Colour ¾ÅÖÝÓ°Ôº. In his retirement he has taken over a grade II listed cottage in the Isle of Wight.
