NI RSC Talk - A life of Crime by Prof Sheila Willis

21 November 2022 19:00-21:00, Belfast , United Kingdom

Introduction
Professor Willis is an internationally recognised forensic scientist. She is the immediate Past President of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences and former Director General of Forensic Science in Ireland. She is also an Honorary Professor and member of the Advisory Board in the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science at the University of Dundee.

Sheila Willis spent her career at all levels in forensic science, including investigating physical traces (paint, glass, fibres, marks and firearm residues). She also worked with fire accelerants and explosives and was DG when the DNA database was established at FSI. Sheila was interested throughout her career in how findings should be reported and is proud of chairing the group who drew up the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI) guidelines for evaluative reporting.

During a sabbatical as a guest researcher in the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the US she focused on the transfer and persistence of DNA. Professor Willis was recently appointed to the External scientific advisory board of the Netherlands Forensic Institute.
